Synopsis

“The warmest welcomes often hide the biggest secrets.” When we knock on someone’s door, we rarely expect the place to make us disappear. But even the rarest things do happen, and that too in the most unexpected ways. On a fine morning on the streets of North Kolkata, a well-dressed man was wandering around. Suddenly, a cynical vendor selling all kinds of ludicrous masks appeared and handed him a piece of paper. Following the address, the man knocked on the door of an old building. He was there for business. He was exhausted and frustrated because he had lost a million-dollar deal due to three foolish boys. After a few minutes, an old lady opened the door. He asked about Mr. Chatterjee, the owner of the house. The old lady welcomed him in and introduced him to her husband, Mr.Chatterjee. She also offered him a cup of black coffee, and from that moment, the horror ofthe man’s life began.

The man named Subikash Chatterjee had died long ago, and the old lady was none other than his widowed wife, who saw her husband in every piece of furniture in her home. The question lingers: why is the man really here, and is there any hidden danger waiting for him?

Inspired by a story of Roald Dahl, the short-film by SS Motions “Black Coffee”, directed by Sougata Ghosh, produced by Sudipa Ganguly Bagchi, builds a chilling revelation, leaving the audience with a sense of unease and terrifying thoughts. This film talks about common people whom we find in our surroundings, the systemic oppressions they face and how it changes individual lives. With its slow-building tension and eerie atmosphere, the film leaves the audience disturbed, questioning appearances, and reminded that some doors, once entered, can never be left behind.
