(Baaki Itihaas)
Saradindu Nag, a lecturer and his wife Basanti, a writer and a seemingly ordinary middle class Bengali couple.
On a Sunday morning, driven by boredom, they search for a plot in the newspaper.
The news of a suicide committed by Sitanath Chakraborty intrigues them.
They think they know this man but not enough to know the reason behind his death.
The couple then try to come up with their own versions of events that led to the suicide.
This obsession slowly uncovers uncomfortable truths about the lives of the couple.
Saradindu is confronted by his own morality, existential dilemma, the history of the human civilisation and history that is beyond the daily lives of Saradindu and Sitanath.
শরদিন্দু নাগ, একজন প্রভাষক এবং তার স্ত্রী বাসন্তী, একজন লেখক এবং আপাতদৃষ্টিতে একজন সাধারণ
মধ্যবিত্ত বাঙালি দম্পতি। রবিবার সকালে, একঘেয়েমি দ্বারা চালিত হয়ে তারা সংবাদপত্রে একটি প্লট অনুসন্ধান করে।
সীতানাথ চক্রবর্তীর আত্মহত্যার খবর তাদের কৌতুহলী করে তোলে। তারা মনে করে তারা এই লোকটিকে চেনে
কিন্তু তার মৃত্যুর কারণ জানার জন্য যথেষ্ট নয়।
তারপর দম্পতি তাদের নিজস্ব চিন্তাভাবনা প্রকাশ করে দুটি গল্প লেখে এবং সীতানাথের আত্যহত্যার কারন সন্ধানের চেষ্টা করেন।
এই আবেশ ধীরে ধীরে দম্পতির জীবন সম্পর্কে অস্বস্তিকর সত্য উন্মোচন করে।
শরদিন্দু তার নিজস্ব নৈতিকতা, অস্তিত্বগত দ্বিধা, মানব সভ্যতার ইতিহাস এবং ইতিহাসের মুখোমুখি হয় যা শরদিন্দু এবং সীতানাথের দৈনন্দিন জীবনের উর্ধে।
Director’s Point Of View
তৃতীয় বিশ্বযুদ্ধ শুরু হয়ে গেছে। এই নাটকের একটি বড় অংশ জুরে রয়েছে হত্যা, দাঙ্গা, প্রথম বিশ্বযুদ্ধ ও
দ্বিতীয় বিশ্বযুদ্ধের ভয়াবহতা। সেই পরপ্রেক্ষিতে আজকের সময় নাটক টি খুবই গুরুত্বপুর্ন । এছাড়া নাটকটির
মূল ঘটনা আত্যহত্যা। বর্তমান সময় যুবরা সমস্ত সুযোগ সুবিধা এবং বিলাশবহুল জীবন কাটানোর পড়ও প্রচণ্ড
হতাশামুখী এবং Self – Destructive। যেচে জীবনকে মূল্যহীন ভেবে কষ্ট পায়। তাই এই সময় দাড়িয়ে বাকি ইতিহাস খুবই সচেতনতামূলক ও দৃষ্টান্ত।
